Intro

A solar-powered light accompanied by an app, designed for family reunification, especially for asylum seekers. People can navigate, communicate, and reunite through color and sound that shift with distance. Through the app, users can also locate their families and check their status.

Smart Solar-Powered Light: A durable, portable light that provides off-grid illumination and transmits a unique location signal.

Family Location and Navigation App: A companion app that connects registered Staylight devices, displays family members’ last known locations, and provides navigation guidance.

❋ Research Support 

The project’s research would be conducted in collaboration with Bay Area refugee-focused nonprofit and volunteer organizations. Interviews, field observations, and co-design workshops with refugees, resettled families, volunteers, and humanitarian workers would help validate real needs, accessibility requirements, safety concerns, and cultural sensitivities.
